Classes and subclasses of the lipoprotein profile

Lipoprotein classes and subclasses (HDL, LDL, IDL, VLDL, chylomicrones)

Example of the subdivision of the common lipoprotein classes (for details see textbook Löffler, Petrides, Biochemistry and Pathobiochemistry) into subclasses by size.

In the blood, cholesterol and other lipids are packaged into lipoprotein particles, which are classified according to composition, size, density and physiological functions into fractions: chylomicrons, VLDL (very low density lipoproteins), LDL (low density lipoproteins,  IDL (intermediate density lipoproteins) and HDL (high density lipoproteins).
